AI for FinTech

In AI for FinTech, our research investigates how advanced machine learning is reshaping financial services by enhancing data collection, analysis, and decision-making. Advances in deep learning, NLP, and LLMs enable efficient, real-time processing that fuels new FinTech products, while simultaneously expanding the attack surface for cyber threats. We study emerging risks—such as AI-generated fake news and misleading financial content that distort investor beliefs—and develop approaches to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and proactive defenses. In parallel, we build LLM-based fraud detection systems and conduct multimodal analytics on unstructured data (e.g., corporate disclosures and executive interviews) to produce actionable insights for investors and regulators.

Computational Social Science

In Computational Social Science, our research combines advanced NLP, network analysis, and machine learning to study critical societal issues using social media and other online data. We examine high-stakes phenomena such as fake news diffusion, deepfake detection, substance-use risk signals, and digital behavioral influence. This enables the systematic analysis of large-scale data to better understand human behavior and social dynamics in the digital age. We also investigate how AI-mediated interactions can be strategically manipulated and how such risks can be mitigated. Methodologically, we develop AI-based tools and models that advance the measurement of complex social phenomena and inter-organizational relationships, contributing both theoretical insights and practical solutions to pressing societal challenges.
